About Us
Meet the Med A.I. Leadership Team
We are a group of medical students with an interest and background in AI, working in collaboration with Emory University School of Medicine professors who are experts in data science and technology. Together, we're developing innovative AI education specifically designed for medical training.
Board Members

Josephine Buclez
MS3
Josephine is a third-year medical student at Emory. She is excited about all things related to the brain. She wants to improve health systems by using AI to eliminate redundancies and inefficiencies in clinical workflows.

Brian Zhou
he/him
MS3
Brian is interested in the intersection of medicine and technology and passionate about incorporating technology into medicine to improve patient care. He thinks AI can be a powerful tool clinicians and hospitals use to improve efficiency in their workup from patients, not only in diagnostics but also in communications, operations, and workflows. In his free time, he loves playing soccer and spending time outside!

Sophie Wolmer
she/her
MS3
Sophie Wolmer is an MS3 at Emory University, previously trained as a health data scientist at the University of Cambridge. She is interested in neurology and internal medicine. She is focused on using AI to transform medical education, building scalable, accessible learning tools that make complex clinical concepts easier to understand while preserving the human side of medicine. She prides herself on enjoying the little fun moments in life.

Calvin Abdallah
MS3
Calvin is an M.D. candidate at Emory University School of Medicine with a background in Biomedical Engineering from Georgia Tech and a strong interest in artificial intelligence in healthcare. His work focuses on leveraging machine learning, predictive analytics, and biomedical technologies to improve clinical decision-making, advance medical research, and develop innovative solutions that enhance patient care.

Sarah Kaplan
she/her
MS2
Sarah is a medical student particularly interested in the intersection of clinical medicine and data-driven innovation. Her research has focused on clinical data analysis and building large databases. She is especially excited about the role of AI in medicine—both in improving diagnostic accuracy and making care more personalized and efficient. She is interested how AI can identify patterns in complex datasets and support clinical decision-making, as medicine continues moving toward a more precise and patient-centered approach.
Amshumanth Chakragiri
MS3
Amshu is a third-year medical student and one of the Research Chairs of MedAI. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 2019 with majors in Biomedical Engineering and Neuroscience and did a gap year in basic science research at Georgia Tech. While at Georgia Tech, Amshu worked on several different research projects involving bioinformatics, AI in medical image analysis, and biosignal analysis for prosthetic devices. At Emory, he is currently involved in multiomics research within heart transplant outcomes in the Chan Lab. Amshu's research experiences motivated him to join MedAI as a Research Chair, where he aims to make research opportunities in AI more accessible to students by connecting them with ongoing projects at Emory and Georgia Tech.

Isabella Cavagna
she/her
MS2
Isabella is interested in learning about how AI will integrate into future healthcare systems. As she is still exploring specialties, she is drawn to understanding how these tools can be applied across different fields. She is excited to continue learning how AI can support clinical care.

Nidhi Kanchumarthi
MS3
Nidhi Kanchumarthi is the Curriculum Chair. She is from the Bay Area and is interested in integrating AI literacy and practical skills into medical education. Outside of school, she enjoys exploring new coffee shops around Atlanta and hosting Sunday brunches at her apartment!

Will Schuler
MS2
Will is a 2nd year medical student at Emory. He is excited about the intersection of medicine and technology and is interested in leveraging AI to cut down on administrative burden.
